Susan G. Komen Memorial® announces today that its signature Peoria MORE THAN PINK Walk will officially return to the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend! The event will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Metro Centre on University, with the opening ceremony kicking off at 8:00AM. “We made the decision to move the date to October in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As an organization, we were not able to host in-person events March 2020 through June 2021, so we chose October for a second year in a row with the hopes we could come face-to-face with our Komen community. And we did! It was wonderful to see our friends face-to-face in October, but we are ready to get back to the weekend this community has celebrated for so many years.” Gayle Young, Executive Director. May 7th will mark the 37th annual event (formerly known as Race for the Cure), The fundraising goal for this year’s Peoria MORE THAN PINK Walk is $250,000. Funds raised by the community support Komen’s investments in breakthrough research, needed patient care public policy action at all levels of government, and so much more. Together, we are working to discover the cures while supporting people facing breast cancer today, ensuring everyone can get the care they need to live. Our community can now register at www.komen.org/peoriawalk. Registration for the Peoria MORE THAN PINK Walk is free. All participants who raise a minimum of $100 will receive a commemorative event t-shirt. Additionally, all survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer will receive a special t-shirt recognizing their role in our event. Registered participants will also have access to interactive Walk experiences through the MORE THAN PINK Walk App and enjoy a morning filled with celebration, education, and reflection for how far we’ve come in the fight. Participants who register and make a self-donation by Sunday, January 16th will be entered into a drawing for one of two $100 gift cards! Each winner will be able to choose which Metro Centre store they would like their $100 gift card to be selected from.
